Child Counseling

For our youngest clients, (we treat ages 6 and up only) we offer Play Therapy, Art Therapy and Sand Tray Therapy in addition to talk therapy.  Our counselors are trained in special techniques to help our younger clients process scary or upsetting events.  We have kid-friendly books and games, friendly stuffed animals to hug, and caring staff to help kids work through difficult things.

We employ Certified Youth Mental Health Specialists who are trained in the latest methods, and educated about the most recent research as it applies to working with kids and teens. We have additional training working with neurodivergent kids and their families. We employ an Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist as well as an ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider. We have a lot of experience working with these very special and unique kids and their parents.

Children may struggle with their parents’ divorce, with the loss of a parent or other loved one, with trauma from a shocking or scary event, with being teased or bullied at school, and with many other issues.  Many children develop clinically worrisome levels of anxiety at an early age.  They are fearful and often experience stomachaches, and/or nightmares

Young children are developmentally egocentric.  This means that they always think THEY are responsible when bad things happen.

This can cause sadness, feelings of guilt and shame, and damaged self-esteem that can become part of the child’s identity.

We can help.

Our counselors have training and expertise in dealing with children’s issues.   Our tools and strategies are based on the latest research and science about how kids react to stress and trauma.  We know what they need most from the adults in their lives.

We create a safe and caring environment where your child has space and encouragement to work out their problems:  develop healthy coping skills and learn to communicate their needs better.  It is even more important to address challenges and traumas with children.  Left unaddressed, models for relationships and unhealthy coping skills can follow us into adulthood.  This can cause problems with substance abuse and chronic depression.

Preventative care now is one of the best choices you can make for your kids.  We have kids too, and we know how precious they are.  We treat all clients from the youngest to the oldest with the same compassion and respect.
